Protecting Your Body at Work During Pregnancy

Dec 5, 2018 | Firm News, Pregnancy-Related Injuries

When you are pregnant, there are precautions you should take to protect your body and your unborn baby from preventable injuries. At Garau Germano PC, we have helped many people in Indiana who have been the victims of injuries associated with childbirth and pregnancy.

One of the places where you will want to be extra careful about what you are doing is in the workplace. Depending on the industry you work in, you may already be exposed to hazards that are a part of your job. However, it may be necessary to speak with your employer about temporarily making modifications to specific tasks at work to avoid hurting yourself or compromising the health of your baby.

According to the Mayo Clinic, being around or exposed to certain things in the workplace can increase your risk of experiencing complications with your pregnancy. If your job requires you to lift heavy items or move things around on a regular basis, you will need to make other arrangements while you are pregnant. You should also limit your exposure to hazardous chemicals or materials that may irritate you or put you at risk. Other things to avoid include persistently loud noises, constant vibrations, and temperatures that are extremely hot or cold.

When you are aware of what to avoid at work to protect yourself and your baby, you can feel more confident about your ability to avoid injuries that could potentially compromise the wellbeing of your baby. For more information about injuries at birth, visit our web page.
