Do I Need to Have a C-section?

There is a certain magic that comes with being pregnant. Whether it happened quickly or took a long time to conceive, there is a lot of excitement that comes with expecting a baby.

When it comes time to think about childbirth, many moms get understandably nervous. You may not want surgery, but a natural delivery can seem just as terrifying. In certain circumstances, the doctor should recommend a cesarean section for the health of the baby.

These are some of the indications you may need a cesarean delivery.

Problems during pregnancy

Being pregnant is a high-demand job for the human body. It adds an entirely new process to all the typical processes the human body goes through every day. When all the systems do not come together, there can be complications, including:

  • Issues with the placenta
  • Infections like HIV and genital herpes
  • Carrying multiples
  • Diabetes or high blood pressure

While these issues do not always mean you will need a c-section, they are indications that the pregnancy is at a higher risk for complications.

Difficulty during delivery

Labor and delivery can get complicated quickly. There are two people to monitor, and both can bring their fair share of problems that impact the health of one or both of them, including:

  • Baby is in distress or the wrong position
  • Pinched or wrapped umbilical cord
  • Labor starts but stalls

When there are complications in the delivery room, it is up to your medical team to make a quick judgment call.

Often, women are uncomfortable speaking up because the process is unfamiliar. As you progress through your pregnancy and on to the delivery room, keep the conversation going with your doctor. Ask questions if something does not feel right, so your medical team can catch problems early on.

If you were harmed due to a botched or unnecessary c-section, you may have grounds for a legal claim. Call Garau Germano, P.C. at (317) 854-5877 or complete an online form to discuss your legal options in full.
