Jan 11, 2019 | Firm News, Hospital Negligence

Technology is incredibly useful. You probably use it throughout your day in many different ways. You may even notice it being used more often in hospitals. In some aspects hospitals in Indiana may use it operating rooms. However, the use during an operation may be different than around the other areas of the hospital. There is some concern about using technology, specifically handheld devices, in the operating room, according to MedCrave.

This technology can be very helpful in this type of situation. There are many applications on the market targeting specific medical professionals. A great example is anesthesiology. There are apps that will help these doctors better care for patients through offer education on drugs, patient care, medical conditions, procedures and much more. They can even use apps to monitor patients and equipment.

The concerns, though, are using handheld devices may become a distraction and may introduce HIPPA violations. In addition, cross-contamination is a very real possibility. Finally, signals may interfere with medical equipment in use in the operating room, leading to serious issues that could pose a real danger for the patient.

Technology can be wonderful and incredibly helpful, but it has its downsides. Whether handheld devices start making regular appearances in operating rooms is something now quite clear yet. The bottom line is that there must be proof that device usage brings more good than bad. In addition, hospitals have to ensure using such devices will not put patients at risk.
